What is it?


u2-SX E15 HDMI using the QMTECH EP4CE15F23 core board and based on SM-X HB Mini.


Unfortunately, QMTECH stopped producing the EP4CE15F23 core board in the first half of 2024. But I solved this problem and designed a compatible core board with the permission of QMTECH, which is the fundamental reason for the continuation of the project.


To improve VGA quality, I have added an external video DAC, and I changed the keyboard layout to US layout, and I also solidified the u2-SX startup logo.


So the firmware is not compatible with SM-X HB.


It is no surprise that Victor is the creator of SM-X, which means all the second-generation 1ChipMSX clones are based on SM-X.



  • SX-2 is a partial clone of SM-X.

  • SX-Lite is a full clone of SM-X HB Mini.

  • SX-E is a combination of SM-X and MiST clones. This is similar to Victor's Multicore 2p.


Why did you make it?


To continue the legacy of the EP4CE15F23-based SM-X HB Mini platform with improved video quality, a custom compatible core board, and enhanced features — making it accessible again after QMTECH discontinued the original core board.


What makes it special?


Compared with first-generation OCM (such as uMSX) and other second-generation OCM hardware, it has the following characteristics:
